Club Report Winter 2005

W

hen I emailed the Ontario Region Trial Director to request our third trial of 2005, he said “three trials in one year, way to go!” I wrote back yes, we’re a very ambitious group. Well, all that ambition coupled with a lot of hard work turned into some great results for our club including three SchH 1’s, one SchH 2, one SchH 3, a Tracking 1 and an Obedience 1.

It was “I told you so” time for Pino Pucci who honestly believed that he wouldn’t get nervous trying for his SchH1. Ha! He’s the kind of guy who’s not used to relying on anyone or anything for his successes so when he found himself pretty much dependant on what his dog was capable of on trial day, he had to admit that he had never been so nervous in his whole life. When it was all over Pino and Zeus had their SchH1, nerves and all.

I told you Lol would get her SchH 1 this time. Dakota’s track was flawless after the first leg. Obedience brought out some mental lapses ( Lol’s) but a 95 in Protection made up for everything.

John Carvalho and Samson were our third SchH1 team coming away with High Tracking (97), High SchH1 and High in Trial (272). Way to go John!

Trish McGonigal and Kassie, the most entertaining team of the day managed to pass their SchH 2 in spite of Trish’s unique dumbbell throws and Kassie’s innovative side transport.

Claire and Cabre were our successful SchH 3 team with an impressive High Protection of 96.

Sherrel Legacy and Gamma achieved their Tracking 1 and Obedience 1 titles.

George Kopecky and Fero and Bill Spiropoulos and Braemar from Winnipeg passed their BH’s.

We would like to thank our friends from Winnipeg, Bill Spiropoulos, Marg Nicolson, George Kopecky, Bill Reid and Bernie and Irene Klotz for making the trip to Thunder Bay to support us. It was great to see everyone on and off the field.

It was a very emotional and fun weekend. We had such a great time we barely noticed that it rained all day Saturday.

A lot of the credit for such a good time was due to our Judge Jan Hrouda who always manages to keep it light while maintaining serious and tough evaluations of everyone’s efforts, even Trish’s. Thanks Jan, we had a ball.

Thanks also to Bob and John for doing the helper work, and Bob and me for laying the tracks.

As if 3 trials weren’t enough for one year, we had to throw in a road trip to Winnipeg for the Halloween weekend. Bob, Claire Lol and I drove down to take in a seminar and trial and of course a really fun Halloween party. The costumes were hilarious.

We’re down to training once a week now and look forward to a much needed Christmas break.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

P.S. Has anyone else out there heard of a new organization called “Schutzhund Canada” (CKC)? It was mentioned in an add spotted in the latest “Dogs in Canada Annual”.
